What is condom nominal width?

Nominal width is the width of a condom laid flat, in millimeters. It is about half the unstretched circumference: girth (mm) ≈ nominal width × 2. A 53 mm condom matches about 106 mm (4.17 in) of girth before stretch. ISO 4074 is the international standard that defines how latex condom width is measured. Always use the millimeter on your package, because the same brand name differs by country.

What condom size fits each girth range?

Unstretched match used here: Snug 0–47 mm (under 3.7"), Regular 47–52 mm (3.7"–4.09"), Large 52–58 mm (4.09"–4.57"), Extra large 58+ mm (over 4.57"). A 4.0 in girth is 51 mm (Regular / Standard). Latex stretches, so try one millimeter either side if the first box is slightly off.

My girth is 4.5 inches — what condom size do I need?

4.5 inches is 114 mm around. Nominal width = 57 mm, which is Large (52–58 mm). Examples near that width include Trojan Magnum Original (base) (55 mm) and ONE Legend (55 mm). A 52–53 mm “regular” pharmacy condom is narrower than this unstretched match, so step up if it feels tight.

My girth is 5.5 inches — what condom size do I need?

5.5 inches is 140 mm around, so nominal width is 70 mm (Extra Large). That is above most pharmacy “large” boxes (about 54–58 mm). Look for custom-width brands such as MySize or Pasante that print 64–69 mm, and confirm the number on the box.

What size condom is 7 inches?

If 7 inches is length, you do not need a special size. Most condoms are 180–200 mm long (about 7.1–7.9 in), and ISO 4074 requires at least 160 mm, so a 7 in erect length fits standard length. Width still comes from girth. If 7 inches is girth, that is 178 mm around and about 89 mm nominal width, which is beyond retail condoms. Re-measure: clinical mean erect girth is 11.66 cm (4.59 in), not 7 in.

What condom width fits a 5 cm girth?

A 5 cm erect girth is 50 mm around, so the unstretched nominal width is 25 mm. Common condoms start near 47 mm, which matches about 9.4 cm (3.7 in) of girth, so 5 cm is below retail sizes. If you meant 5 inch girth, that is 64 mm (Extra Large). If you meant a 5 cm diameter, circumference is about 15.7 cm and nominal width is about 79 mm, which is custom-only.

What penis circumference matches a 60 mm nominal width?

60 mm nominal width × 2 = 120 mm circumference, which is 12 cm or 4.72 inches. That is the unstretched match. Because condoms stretch, someone slightly above 12 cm girth may still find 60 mm comfortable, and someone slightly below may prefer 58 mm.

Are Trojan Magnum condoms much larger than regular?

Not by the base width. Trojan’s size chart lists Magnum Original at 55 mm base nominal width (mid-shaft about 62 mm, because it is tapered) and Magnum XL at 58 mm base (mid-shaft about 63 mm). Trojan ENZ is commonly listed near 53 mm. A 4.0 in girth is about 51 mm, still in regular. Match girth ÷ 2 to the base millimeter, and remember the mid-shaft of a Magnum is wider than the number at the base.

What is the Durex condom size chart?

Durex widths depend on the country. Many US Durex lines are about 52–54 mm. In the UK and parts of Europe, a “regular” Durex is often about 56 mm, Close Fit is nearer 49–52 mm, and Comfort or XXL lines run from about 56 mm toward 64 mm. There is no single worldwide Durex chart. Use the millimeter printed on the box you can actually buy.

Does this calculator work in inches, cm, and mm?

Yes. Inches × 25.4, or centimeters × 10, gives girth in millimeters; divide by 2 for nominal width. Example: 11.5 cm girth → 115 mm → 58 mm nominal width → Large.

What if condoms feel too tight, break, or slip off?

Too tight or breaking usually means the nominal width is low for your girth. At 4.5 in, the unstretched target is 57 mm; a 52–53 mm regular is narrower than that. Slipping means the opposite: at 3.7 in the target is about 47 mm (Trojan Snug Fit, 47 mm; Beyond Seven, 47 mm). Use water- or silicone-based lubricant on latex, check the expiration date, and use one condom per act.

Is length or girth more important for condom fit?

Girth sets nominal width. Length only matters if the condom will not cover the shaft after the width is right. Most condoms are 180 mm or longer, so erect lengths from about 4 to 7 inches are covered by rolling extra latex at the base. A 5.5 in length does not change the 57 mm width that comes from a 4.5 in girth.

What if I am between two nominal-width bands?

Within about 1 mm of the next band — try one box from each. Worked example: 4.48 in → 57 mm (Large). Prefer the snugger box if a condom slips; prefer the wider box if the ring leaves a mark.

Q: How do I know my condom size?

Measure erect girth (circumference) at the thickest part of the shaft, convert to millimeters, and divide by 2. That number is nominal width, the millimeter printed on the box. Example: 4.5 in is 114 mm around, so nominal width is 57 mm (Large). Length does not set the size. Take two readings and average them.

Q: What size condom is 6 inches?

A 6 inch length (152 mm) is shorter than many condoms. Extra length stays rolled at the base; choose width from girth, not from the 6 inches. A 6 inch girth is a different measurement: 152 mm around, about 76 mm nominal width, which is wider than standard and most XL shelves. Use a soft tape around the shaft so length and girth are not mixed up.

Q: What is a standard condom size?

A standard pharmacy condom is usually 52–54 mm nominal width and about 180–190 mm long. That width matches an unstretched girth of about 104–108 mm (4.1–4.25 in). Veale et al. (BJU International, 2015) reported a mean erect circumference of 11.66 cm (4.59 in), an unstretched match of about 58 mm. Many people are fine in 52–54 mm because latex stretches; others need 56–60 mm. The millimeter on the box is the standard, not the word “regular.”

3.5 in girth is 44 mm, just under the smallest common boxes (about 47 mm, or 3.7 in). 5.5 in girth is 70 mm, and 6 in girth is 76 mm — both above typical pharmacy “large” boxes (about 54–58 mm). From about 64 mm up, look at custom-width brands, not the Magnum shelf.

5 cm girth is not a retail condom size

5 cm around is 50 mm, so nominal width is 25 mm. A 9 cm girth is only 45 mm. Common condoms start near 47 mm (about 9.4 cm / 3.7 in girth). If the measurement was 5 inches, the width is 64 mm (Extra Large). If it was a 5 cm diameter, circumference is π × 5 cm ≈ 15.7 cm, about 79 mm nominal width, which is custom-only.

60 mm nominal width corresponds to 12 cm (4.72 in) of girth with no stretch. 52–54 mm, the usual pharmacy range, corresponds to about 4.09–4.25 in.

What size condom is 6 inches or 7 inches?

Those searches almost always mean length. Length does not pick the condom. Girth does.

A 7 inch erect length is 178 mm. ISO 4074 requires latex condoms to be at least 160 mm long, and most boxes are 180–200 mm (about 7.1–7.9 in). A 7 inch length fits a standard-length condom. A 6 inch length is 152 mm, shorter than the condom; the extra latex stays rolled at the base as long as the width is right.

The same numbers as girth are a different problem. 6 inches around is 76 mm nominal width. 7 inches around is 89 mm. Neither is a pharmacy size. Clinical mean erect girth is 11.66 cm (4.59 in), so a tape reading of 6–7 inches around is worth measuring again at the thickest part of the shaft.

What is a standard condom size?

Standard means about 52–54 mm nominal width and about 180–190 mm long. That width is an unstretched girth of roughly 10.4–10.8 cm (4.1–4.25 in).

Veale et al., BJU International (2015), pooled clinician-measured studies and reported mean erect length of 13.12 cm (SD 1.66 cm; 692 men) and mean erect circumference of 11.66 cm (SD 1.10 cm; 381 men). That mean girth is an unstretched match of about 58 mm. A 52–54 mm condom is several millimeters of stretch below the clinical mean, which is why it fits many people and feels tight on others. If 52–54 mm leaves a ring mark, try 56–60 mm before assuming you need the largest name on the shelf.

How to measure for a condom

Girth is the distance around the thickest part of the erect shaft. It is not the length from base to tip, and it is not the diameter. A 2 mm miss on nominal width is enough to slip or break. Use the four steps below, then buy the millimeter on the box — not the words Magnum, XL, or Close Fit.

When fully erect, wrap a soft tape around the thickest part of the shaft. Do not measure only the head. Average two readings.
Convert to millimeters: inches × 25.4, or centimeters × 10. A 4.5 inch girth is about 114 mm.
Divide by 2. 114 mm girth is about 57 mm nominal width.
Match that millimeter on the package. If you have no tape, mark a strip of paper where it overlaps, then measure the mark with a ruler.

Length is optional. Press a ruler into the pubic bone and measure to the tip. It only matters if a correctly wide condom still feels short. Extra length rolls up at the base.

Limitations

Nominal width on the box is the flat width, not your circumference — this calculator uses girth (mm) ÷ 2, the unstretched match
Latex and polyisoprene stretch, so a box a few millimeters under that target can still fit; go up if you get a ring mark or breakage
Flared condoms such as Trojan Magnum print a base width; the mid-shaft is wider. Trojan lists Magnum Original at 55 mm base / 62 mm mid-shaft and Magnum XL at 58 mm base / 63 mm mid-shaft
The same brand name is a different millimeter in the US than in the UK or EU — Durex “regular” is often ~52–54 mm in the US and ~56 mm in the UK
Length matters less than girth for straight condoms (extra length stays rolled at the base). Most condoms are at least 160 mm long and commonly 180–200 mm
