How This Calculator Works

Our ASU GPA calculator uses Arizona State University's official grading system to calculate your grade point average. The calculation follows ASU's academic standards and provides accurate GPA calculations along with academic standing information.

The GPA Calculation Formula

GPA = Total Quality Points ÷ Total Credit Hours
Quality Points = Grade Points × Credit Hours

ASU uses a 4.0 scale where A = 4.0 points, B = 3.0 points, C = 2.0 points, etc. Plus/minus grades have intermediate values (A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, etc.).

Sample ASU Student Grades
Let's calculate the GPA for a typical semester

Course Grades:

  • Math 210: A (4.0) × 3 credits = 12.0 points
  • English 102: B+ (3.3) × 3 credits = 9.9 points
  • Biology 181: B (3.0) × 4 credits = 12.0 points
  • History 103: A- (3.7) × 3 credits = 11.1 points

Calculation Steps:

  1. Total Quality Points: 12.0 + 9.9 + 12.0 + 11.1 = 45.0
  2. Total Credit Hours: 3 + 3 + 4 + 3 = 13
  3. GPA = 45.0 ÷ 13 = 3.46
  4. Academic Standing: Good Standing

Result: GPA 3.46 (Good Academic Standing)

✓ Close to Dean's List eligibility (3.5+ required). Great academic performance!
