How much heavy cream do you need for whipped cream?
Direct answer
Divide the whipped cups by the peak factor. At medium peaks (1.95×), 2 cups of whipped cream need 1.03 US cups of liquid heavy cream. Four cups need 2.05 cups.
Liquid cream for a finished volume
Medium peaks divide by 1.95. Soft peaks divide by 1.72. Stiff peaks divide by 2.15.
| Whipped cream you want | Soft | Medium | Stiff |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 US cups | 0.58 cups | 0.51 cups | 0.47 cups |
| 2 US cups | 1.16 cups | 1.03 cups | 0.93 cups |
| 4 US cups | 2.33 cups | 2.05 cups | 1.86 cups |
| 6 US cups | 3.49 cups | 3.08 cups | 2.79 cups |
240 g cream (~242 ml liquid) at stiff peaks is 2.2 US cups whipped (~521 ml). About 4.4 servings at ½ US cup whipped each.
Limits
- Planning volumes for dairy heavy cream. A warm kitchen or cream whipped into butter will not hit the factor.
- Sugar in a normal dusting does not change this cup count much. A large amount of dry mix-ins does.
- Store the finished cream cold. This page estimates volume, not how long it keeps.
