Our New York child support calculator applies the CSSA approach: multiply combined parental income (up to the combined threshold) by the statutory percentage for the number of children, then allocate that basic obligation between parents based on each parent’s share of combined gross income. The non-custodial parent’s estimated payment is that parent’s pro-rata share of the basic obligation. This mirrors the common income-shares explanation used in New York family law materials.
Basic obligation = (min(combined, cap)) × statutory %NCP payment = Basic obligation × (NCP income ÷ combined income)Combined income is capped at the CSSA threshold for this basic calculation ($15,250.00 per month illustrative cap). Income above the cap may require additional support determined separately.

Get Custom Calculator for Your PracticeIllustrative result: non-custodial monthly payment ≈ $1,500 (before add-ons and adjustments).
Same incomes: 17% × $10,000 = $1,700 basic obligation; NCP share = $1,700 × 60% = $1,020.
If combined income exceeds the threshold, the calculator caps the portion used for the guideline percentage and alerts you to review additional support.
