What is 14 divided by 9 rounded to the nearest tenth?
Direct answer
14 ÷ 9 ≈ 1.6. The exact quotient is 1.55555555555556 with 5 repeating. The hundredths digit is 5, so the tenths digit rounds up. The same rule gives √30 ≈ 5.5 and ∛30 ≈ 3.1. Evaluate first, then round once.

Why you round only once
14 ÷ 9 is 1.555… If you first round to the hundredth (1.56) and then to the tenth, you still get 1.6. That luck does not hold for every number. 6.7499 rounded to the nearest tenth is 6.7, because the hundredths digit is 4. Rounding in stages (6.7499 → 6.750 → 6.75 → 6.8) is double rounding and is wrong. Keep at least the hundredths digit from the original value, then stop.
