How far should a 27-inch monitor be from your eyes?
Direct answer
High resolution and medium text put a 27-inch monitor at about 63 cm (24.8 inches). The comfort band is 53–75 cm.
Same 27-inch panel, different settings
27 × 2.1 = 56.7 cm, then resolution, text, and vision offsets, then round to the nearest centimeter.
| Settings | Recommended | Band |
|---|---|---|
| High resolution, medium text | 63 cm (24.8 in) | 53–75 cm |
| Standard resolution, small text | 63 cm (24.8 in) | 53–75 cm |
| Standard resolution, large text | 54 cm (21.3 in) | 44–66 cm |
| High resolution, medium text, sensitive vision | 68 cm (26.8 in) | 58–80 cm |
| Ultra-high resolution, medium text | 66 cm (26.0 in) | 56–78 cm |
A 32-inch monitor with the default high-resolution, medium-text settings is 73 cm (28.7 in).
What the offsets mean
- Small text is +6 cm, medium is +2 cm, and large text is −3 cm. Larger type can sit a little closer and still be readable.
- Standard resolution is +0 cm, high is +4 cm, and ultra-high is +7 cm. Sharper pixels support a slightly longer view.
- Sensitive or fatigue-prone vision is +5 cm. That is a setup buffer, not a diagnosis.
Limits
- Planning estimate, not medical advice. Dry eye, migraine, or a new prescription belongs with an eye-care visit if it persists.
- Distance does not set monitor height. The top of the screen still needs to sit near eye level so you are not tipping your chin up.
- If the text is hard to read at the recommended distance, increase scaling before you pull the panel closer.
