The Calculation Method

Linear Feet = (2 × (Length + Width)) - (Doors × 3ft) - (Windows × 3ft)
Square Feet = Linear Feet × Wainscoting Height

This formula calculates the perimeter of the room, subtracts standard door and window widths, then multiplies by the wainscoting height to determine total coverage area.

Material Calculations

The calculator determines material quantities based on industry standards and common installation practices:

  • Panels: Based on 4-foot wide standard panels, rounded up to whole numbers
  • Baseboard: Equal to linear feet of wainscoting for continuous coverage
  • Cap Molding: Matches linear feet to cap the top of all panels
  • Adhesive: Calculated at 300 square feet coverage per gallon
