Tips
Beverage weight is assumed comparable to grams on a scale; crema and cup temperature affect volume. Use your roaster’s guidance and your machine’s basket limits.
Fix dose and ratio to see how many grams to expect in the cup—ideal when your grinder dose is stable.
Compare dose and measured yield to see which ratio you actually achieved after a shot.
Target a yield and ratio to back-solve how many grams to load for your basket and recipe.
One-tap starting points near 1 : 1.5, 1 : 2, 1 : 2.5, and 1 : 3—tune from taste, not labels alone.
Ratios use weight for repeatability; crema makes volume misleading.
Use ratio with time and grind—this page is a math helper, not a substitute for your palate.
18 g dose at 1 : 2 → about 36 g yield (1 : 2.00).
The ratio 1 : X means yield ÷ dose = X. A higher X usually means more beverage per gram of coffee—often associated with “longer” styles—while a lower X concentrates the same dose into less liquid. Your machine, puck prep, and roast level still control flavor; this tool keeps the arithmetic consistent while you dial grind and time.
Brewing filter coffee too? See coffee ratio and cold brew ratio.
With 18 g dose and a 1 : 2 ratio, aim for roughly 36 g in the cup. If the shot runs fast or slow, change grind and time first—then revisit ratio if you want a different strength or mouthfeel.
