At $50/t CO₂e and 12 metric tons per year: annual cost about $600.
The calculator multiplies your carbon price in dollars per metric ton of CO₂e by annual emissions in metric tons. In direct mode, you supply those tons. In gasoline mode, it converts annual gallons to tons using a standard combustion emission factor for motor gasoline, then applies the same multiplier. Monthly cost divides annual cost by twelve. The per-gallon adder is the carbon price times tons of CO₂ per gallon.
Annual cost ($) ≈ metric tons CO₂e × $/metric tonTons from gasoline ≈ gallons × (kg CO₂/gal ÷ 1000)This is a simplified model for education and planning. Real programs include exemptions, benchmarks, and sector-specific rules.
