How Our Word Count Calculator Works
Our word count calculator uses standard text analysis algorithms to count words, characters, sentences, and paragraphs. The calculation splits text by whitespace for word count, counts all characters including/excluding spaces, and estimates reading time based on average reading speed.
Word Count & Reading Time Formula
Word Count = Text.split(whitespace).length
Character Count = Text.length
Reading Time = Word Count ÷ Reading Speed (wpm)
Speaking Time = Word Count ÷ 130 wpm
These formulas provide comprehensive text analysis. Word count helps track content length for SEO and requirements. Reading time estimation uses 200 wpm (average adult reading speed), while speaking time uses 130 wpm (average speaking speed). Adjust reading speed based on content complexity.

Understanding Content Length for SEO
Word count significantly impacts SEO performance and user engagement. While Google doesn't have a minimum word count requirement, longer content (1500+ words) typically ranks better because it comprehensively covers topics, includes more relevant keywords naturally, and provides more value to readers. However, quality always trumps quantity—focus on thoroughly answering user intent rather than hitting arbitrary word counts.
